Grande Premiere: BIXI available on an American University Campus!


Today is the official launch of a 32 BIXI bike system available at four stations on Washington State University campus, located in Pullman, Washington. The system will be accessible to the 18,000 students of this university, and they will even have the possibility of using their student card as a BIXI key. This is BIXI’s first implementation on a university site and its second on a private campus.

Greenpeace's International Executive Director salutes the BIXI project


As part of his first visit to Montreal following his nomination as executive director of Greenpeace International, Kumi Naidoo will try out BIXI’s public bike system. In addition to giving his first impressions on the system, he will underline the importance of all levels of government in the fight against global warming and climate change. Short speeches by Mr. Ayotte, Mr. Labrecque and Mr. Naidoo, followed by photo session with the dignitaries.

BIXI: 2 million trips and not even out of breath!


BIXI has passed the 2 million trip mark for the 2010 season on August 17 at 8:51:54 precisely. The 1.1 million trips that were made by the end of our first season made us all proud. The fact that this number had doubled by mid-August of this year confirms the passion this mode of transport inspires in subscribers and other users. And when do we reach our next million trip milestone? Well, that’s the million dollar question, isn’t it?

Residents of Ahuntsic-Cartierville and Verdun, don't miss the boat BIXI!


We announced, on August 2nd, the launch of pilot projects in four Montreal boroughs.  Thanks to your great enthusiasm towards this initiative, we are proud to confirm the installation of ten (10) BIXI stations: five (5) in Ahuntsic-Cartierville and five (5) in Verdun. As of Friday, August 13, these BIXI stations are in service and ready for you to use.  We invite you to experience the BIXI service in these new areas and find out how pleasant it is to go shopping on a BIXI bike!

BIXI launches a major pilot project: 20 new stations in service shortly!


After becoming firmly established in and around downtown neighbourhoods, BIXI today kicks off a major pilot project which will serve, among other goals, to evaluate whether an expansion of the network beyond its current range is feasible. Specifically, the pilot project will see the installation of twenty new stations in boroughs mostly located at the limits of the City of Montréal’s public transportation network. As of today, residents of LaSalle and Saint-Laurent will benefit from five new BIXI stations in each borough. The inhabitants of Verdun and Ahuntsic-Cartierville will in turn see the installation of five new stations in each borough by mid-August.

Hours for the three depot stations


With the success of the Phillips Square “depot station”, BIXI has decided to keep it operational from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (and not until 11 a.m. as was previously the case) from Monday to Friday starting on June 28th, 2010.

The hours for the “depot stations” located at Victoria Square and on the corner of Wellington and King Streets will remain unchanged, with the schedule being from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday to Friday (inclusively).
