BIXI

Keep your BIXI-key for the 2010 season. If it isn’t damaged, your BIXI-key will remain operational through the seasons and allows the bearer to identify himself.  

Thirty (30) days prior to the end of your subscription, all you have to do is visit your BIXI Space, click on the renewal button appearing in your profile and follow the instructions. All it takes is a few clicks for your subscription to be renewed and to render your key functional.  

This morning, Roger Plamondon, chair of the board of the Public Bike System Company, and Alain Ayotte, the company’s president, were pleased to announce that the one millionth BIXI bike trip has been made. The two men were accompanied by Gérald Tremblay, mayor of Montréal, and André Lavallée, chair of the City of Montréal’s executive committee and member responsible for the transportation plan, as well as the user who reached this important milestone in the young company’s history.

On November 1, the least-used BIXI stations will be removed, and the size of several others will be reduced. BIXI’s first season will end on the same date that the City of Montréal’s bicycle paths are closed: November 15. However, several stations will still be operational until November 30th, 2009. Remember to check the BIXI map as well as www.bixi.com on a regular basis to find out which stations remain available.

Next year’s season will begin on May 1, 2010.

BIXI’s first season has already come to an end. And in a few short months, BIXI has become the darling of Montrealers everywhere. 

Thank you to its craftsmen. Due to the creativity and ingenuity of its creators, to the passion of those who manufacture and maintain it, to the commitment of its administrators and managers, to the efforts of people and companies throughout Québec, BIXI is now recognized as the finest public bike system in the world. 

Thank you as well to members of the municipal administration, to elected members and staff of the City, who, from the very beginning of the project, have been bold enough to believe in it and offered their unfailing support 

But most of all, a huge thank you to all members of the BIXI community for this magnificent success. BIXI is now yours. Use it. Be proud of it.
