From Washington to... Washington, BIXI is rolling!

The Mayor of Montreal, Mr. Gérald Tremblay, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Bike System Company, Mr. Roger Plamondon, are proud to announce that the BIXI family is growing even larger. The cities of Washington (District of Columbia) and Arlington (Virginia) on the American eastern seaboard, along with the Washington State University campus, on the country’s west coast, have decided to adopt the public bike system that was first revealed in Montreal a little more than a year ago. Starting this fall, 1,100 new BIXI bikes will be found at one of the 114 stations along the Arlington-Washington corridor. Another 30 bikes will be made available for students at Washington State University.

Wearing a helmet may save your life!

This past weekend (Saturday, May 15th, and Sunday, May 16th, 2010), four cyclists tragically lost their lives on our roads. In the wake of these deadly events, the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) has publicly announced it would increase its vigilance along the cycling paths over the next few days. The purpose of these efforts is both to enforce the Québec Highway Safety Code and to encourage cyclists to wear a helmet.

Since wearing a helmet can help reduce the risk of head injuries by 63 % to 88 %, BIXI strongly encourages you to make this basic safety element a part of your everyday cycling life.

BIXI rolls out solutions

BIXI has fallen victim to its own success, which has required us to make some logistical changes.  Given its modular nature, the system is very flexible and adjustments are already being made  -- among others, station size is being modified to better respond to demand. Over the next few days, you’ll be able to see the improvements for yourselves.
