Happy birthday BIXI !
Do you remember where you were on May 12th, 2009? It was one year ago that a new chapter in the history of Montreal was written, as our beautiful city followed in its French cousins’ footsteps and became the first in North America to unveil a self-serve bicycle system.
Without the vision and hard work of the pioneers, managers and employees behind this project, BIXI would never have gone so many kilometres in one year! The road ahead is bright indeed and it runs well beyond our borders. Soon, BIXI will be rolling on three continents.
A year ago, the network had 300 stations and 3,000 bicycles. Montrealers have quickly taken to BIXI and this anniversary is the first of many more to come along its glorious course.
BIXI, we wish you a happy anniversary and happy cycling! Our most heartfelt thanks go to all the first contributors, founding members as well as to all new and future BIXIclists. You have all contributed to make BIXI a true success story.

Our second season opens on Tuesday, April 20
Spring has sprung. The sun’s come out. And BIXI is back for a second season. Our installation teams have been very efficient. Helped by the pleasant spring weather, they’ve managed to set up stations faster than we hoped. Which means BIXIclists will be able use their beloved BIXI system even earlier than expected. Starting Tuesday at 7 am, BIXI bikes will be deployed and ready to roll on the streets of Montreal.
We expect that 246 stations will be up and running by April 20. Users can follow the installation of their favourite stations at our Website.
New for this year, BIXI bikes will be available at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Here is a list of the different stations that will be installed between April 26 and April 30.
The entire BIXI team wishes you a great cycling season.
