Types of payment
There are two types of fees related to the BIXI system:
- system access fees;
- usage and other fees.
All fees can be paid by VISA or MasterCard.
System access fees
You must first subscribe or purchase 24-hour access to gain access to the BIXI network and use its services. Three different formulas are available:
1-YEAR SUBSCRIPTION
$78 taxes included – includes a BIXI-key and a personal Web space My BIXI space.
The subscription is valid for 1 year starting on the activation date of your BIXI-key and covers the entire in-service period (May to November) and expires after 365 days. It can be renewed up to one year after its expiry date through My BIXI space.
The 1-year subscription can be purchased in a single payment, or in three (3) separate payments of $26 each taxes included:
- the 1st payment is charged to your credit card when you activate your BIXI-key;
- the 2nd payment is charged to your credit card 30 days after the 1st payment;
- the 3rd payment is charged to your credit card 30 days after the 2nd payment.
30-DAY SUBSCRIPTION
$28 taxes included, purchased in a single payment – includes a BIXI-key and a personal Web space My BIXI space.
The 30-day subscription is valid for 30 days following the activation of your BIXI-key or starting the first day of the in-service period of the system, if you have activated your BIXI-key prior to the in-service period. For example, if you activate your BIXI-key on June 15, your subscription will expire on July 15.
24-HOUR ACCESS
$5 taxes included.
24-hour access is available at the pay stations of every BIXI station. 24-hour access starts with the first bike rental and is calculated according to departure time (returns can be made after the 24-hour access period is over). For example, if your first trip starts on Monday at 10 am, your 24-hour access expires on Tuesday at 10 am.
Your credit card serves to identify you as a user; therefore only one 24-hour access can be charged to your credit card at any one time. A hold of $250 is placed on your credit card the moment you request 24-hour access, and each time after that you request a new unlocking code.
The $5 fee, as well as usage fees for trips longer than 30 minutes, are charged to your credit card at the end of the 24-hour period, or when the bike is returned after the 24-hour limit.
Usage and other fees
For each trip, the first 30 minutes of usage are free. Beyond that, usage fees will be charged for each subsequent 30-minute period:
1st 30-minute period: free
2nd 30-minute period: + $1.50
3rd 30-minute period: + $3
4th and any subsequent 30-minute periods: + $6
Thus:
- a trip lasting 30 minutes or less would be free;
- a trip lasting between 31 and 60 minutes would cost $1.50;
- a trip lasting between 1 h 1 min and 1 h 30 min would cost $1.50 + $3 = $4.50;
- a trip lasting between 1 h 31 min and 2 hours would cost $4.50 + $6 = $10.50;
- a trip lasting between 2 h 1 min and 2 h 30 min would cost $10.50 + $6 = $16.50;
- and so on.
At the end of a trip you must wait five minutes after returning the bike for the counter to reset to zero. If you take another bike before the five minutes are up, the duration of the two trips will be considered cumulative.
Usage fees will charged to your credit card as follows:
- 1-year and 30-day subscribers: from now until July 12, 2009, fees will be charged monthly on the same day as your subscription date. After, July 12, 2009, fees will be charged as follows:
• on the 27th day of each month for 1-year subscriptions;
• on the 27th day of each month and at the end of the subscription period for 30-day subscriptions. As an example, for a subscription valid from August 8 to September 6, fees would be charged to your account for two periods, from August 8 to August 27 and from August 28 to September 26;
- 24-hour access: at the end of the 24-hour period or at the end of last trip past the 24-hour period.
Other variable fees that can be charged in addition to usage fees:
- $5 fee for a new BIXI-key;
- fees for theft or for not returning a bike within the maximum usage period of 24 hours ($1,000 penalty);
- penalty fees for bike damage attributable to user (penalty fees will vary by case).
Multi-user subscription
The multi-user subscription option allows you to have several co-subscribers on your account. As the account holder, you are responsible for all the co-subscribers linked to your account and all their subscription, usage and other fees will be charged to your credit card.
To take advantage of this option, fill out the 1-year or 30-day subscription form online and click on the Add a co-subscriber button for each person you wish to assume responsibility for. It is also possible to add co-subscribers at any time starting with the My profile tab in your Web space My BIXI space. Choose a user name and password for each co-subscriber which you must then communicate to them. Usage data for each one will appear in your My BIXI space on your monthly statement. Each co-subscriber linked to your account will have a My BIXI space of their own, with their statistics and usage data. As the account holder, it is your choice to become a subscriber or not.
BIXI-keys will be sent to your address; distribute them to the co-subscribers linked to your account. Each person must activate their own key via My BIXI space by using their user name and password, which they can then change by clicking on Modify my account under the My profile tab.
